Christ UMC Missions

We at Christ Church are deeply blessed and take seriously Christ's call to "go into the world..." We exist to be the hands and feet of Christ with mission outreach in our community, nation, and the world. We represent Christ to the world of all ages, colors, creeds, economic classes and needs. Take a look below to learn more about the ways we show God's love to others:

  • Christ UMC's Prayers and Squares prayer quilt ministry began in 2006, and to date has given over 2000 quilts to people in need of healing prayer. Each quilt is equipped with ties that are knotted as each person prays for the quilt recipient. These quilts have been sent around the world, and provide comfort to those in need and their caregivers.

  • Each year Christ UMC's a group put together by the Mission Team participates in a city-wide project, Paint Your Heart Out. This projects provides exterior painting and minor repair services to those in the Shreveport community in need. This worthwhile project is held every May and is a popular mission effort.

  • Christ UMC supports Common Ground Community, an organization in the Cedar Grove neighborhood of Shreveport, with monthly donations to their community food bank. Common Ground provides weekly meals, a food bank, a clothing bank, classes and school tutoring, and community events. We are proud to help Common Ground provide a welcoming space for their community.

  • Christ UMC supports three organizations at Christmastime with Angel Trees:  LA Methodist Children's Home, a prison ministry, and our local first responders. The angel trees provide Christmas gifts to children who might otherwise go without. Our first responders receive "goodie baskets" of snacks to show our appreciation for the services they provide to the community.

  • Christ UMC has a quarterly blood drive to support our local community with blood donations for those in need from illness, injury, or surgery.

  • Weekend of the Cross is a 4-day event in Shreveport, Ruston, Lake Charles, Sulphur, New Orleans, and the Northshore area of Louisiana. While repair and maintenance projects are a vital part of the weekend, organizers encourage youth and adult volunteers to build relationships with the homeowners they are helping in order to more fully show Christ's love.
